Jacob Kollman, 12, of Winchester - set out to help the less fortunate in his community by collecting fans, which he then donated to the Outreach Community Center to be distributed to those in need.
"We are thrilled at the caring and generosity of this young man in thinking of those less fortunate than himself," Marsha Mayner, Outreach Community Center. "Every year we have people come to us who have no way of cooling their home, so this is going to help both us and them a great deal."
During the month of July the center will begin distributing the fans - first to the elderly and disabled and then to others who might be in need of a fan. To request a fan or to donate one - please call the Outreach Community Center - 217-883-0359.
We just again want to say "THANK YOU" to Jacob, his family, and the many that donated.
In April we were blessed to receive a 10 X 10 walk in cooler through the funds we were awarded from DOT foods. In December 2017 we received the news that we had been approved for a DOT Foods grant that would enable us to purchase the new cooler. With the help of our wonderful volunteers the new cooler has now been installed and is making it possible for us to be able to provide fresh produce, dairy and refrigerated items that we were otherwise limited in providing.

If you know of an individual or have a loved one who would benefit from this program please contact us.

With the holidays quickly approaching , the Outreach Community Center has already began planning for all of our holiday events that will soon be coming up. One event that is dear to our hearts is our Christmas Toy Giveaway. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing that with your help we were able to put smiles on so many faces come Christmas morning. As in years past, we will again be excepting good gently used toys. We would also appreciate any new toys that you may want to donate. In past years we have provided toys to over 200 children and we are expecting the need to be just as great if not greater this year. Our drop off date for used toys will be November 18th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. We will also be excepting new toys from this date through December 2nd.
